Business Blueprint

Your wall printing business, mapped out

A working session with the team at The Wall Printer®. We'll walk through the work, the numbers and the path, and you'll leave with a plan you can check against your own market.

The surface business

A sales business that uses a printer

More people know wall printing exists, and demand has followed. UV ink cures right onto drywall, brick, concrete, glass, wood, metal, tile and canvas, so the town around you becomes the canvas.

You own the machine, set your prices and build the client list. We bring the technology, the training and the support. You bring the hustle. The owners who build lasting businesses here aren't always the most technical. They're the ones who get in front of clients and show what the printer can do.

The equipment is the tool. Getting in front of clients is the job.

Path to printing

Five pillars, one of them is the printer

Every blank wall is a conversation. These are the five things that make owners do well, and they run in this order.

Vision

Where the work is

Commercial spaces with branding budgets. Their walls are a reflection of their brand, and they refresh on a cycle, which brings you back.

Hotels and hospitality
Restaurants and bars
Retail and corporate
Auto dealerships
Schools and universities
Healthcare and fitness

Vision

Finding your first clients

Start with people who already trust you

Contractors, restaurant owners, property and facility managers. You're showing a new service to someone who already respects your work.

Do five statement pieces

Dentists, vets, gyms, coffee shops. Fewer gatekeepers, more decision makers. Your first prints become your portfolio and your referral base.

Document everything

Before, during and after. Film it, post it, tag the client. That footage answers objections before anyone raises them.

Think commercial first

Higher rates and repeat relationships. A restaurant group with eight locations isn't a job, it's a contract.

Tool

Your first five

Name five places you could print first. Type them in while we talk. It saves in this browser only.

Tip: pick places people walk past every day, with an owner you can reach directly.

Business

The three kinds of jobs

Most owners set a $500 minimum. Quote the wall, then walk the building.

Quick jobs$500 to $1,500
Two to three hours

Accent walls, small commercial logos, kids' rooms, home offices.

Mid-range$1,500 to $5,000
Half a day to a full day

Restaurant feature walls, office branding, retail stores, gyms.

Larger jobs$5,000 to $25,000
One to three days

Multi-wall installs, exteriors, hotel lobbies, corporate headquarters.

Tool

Quote a wall

Put in a wall you have in mind. This is how owners price a job on the spot.

Square feet

Print time
Job type

Ink at about 50 cents a square foot. Print time at 10 to 20 square feet an hour plus about 30 minutes of setup and breakdown. A $500 minimum applies. Outdoors, add a clear coat as its own line: Wilmington Wall Printing charges $5 a square foot for it. Illustrative; real quotes depend on the surface, prep and your market.

Business

Work that comes back

Seasonal refreshes

Restaurants change menus and specials. Retail refreshes for campaigns. One client, several jobs a year.

Multi-location rollouts

A brand with eight locations isn't one job, it's a contract. Restaurant groups, hotel chains, gyms. Same design, printed again.

Property management

Apartment communities, HOAs, co-working spaces. Common areas get refreshed, and those budgets renew.

Business

Every surface is a revenue stream

Print on site, or print in your own shop between wall jobs and install the finished piece. Mention glass, tile and concrete with every wall and you open work your client didn't know was possible.

Tool

A month of numbers, costs included

Move the sliders to your market. Every cost stays in. For a target, we coach owners toward 500 square feet in the first month and at least 800 a month per printer after that.

Illustrative, not a promise. Ink at about 50 cents a square foot; hours at about 15 square feet an hour. Your numbers depend on your market, your pricing and how much you sell. For every input, open the full payback calculator.

Business

Build a business that runs without you

The owners who grow aren't the ones doing every print themselves.

Phase 1

Operator

You run the machine, sell the jobs and learn the business. Every owner starts here. This is where you build confidence, a portfolio and your first client relationships.

Phase 2

Manager

Train someone to run the machine. Build repeatable processes and a menu of services with set pricing. While they print, you sell.

Phase 3

Owner

The first machine runs while you sell the second. More printers, hired operators and systems that hold up without you on every job.

Illustrative. Ask about multi-printer pricing and market agreements: a set population tied to machine count, production and ink usage.

Graphics

From design to print in four steps

Design

Create or source the artwork in Photoshop, Illustrator or AI tools. Set the color profile to CMYK and export a TIFF, SVG or PDF.

Load

Move the file to the printer's Windows computer. The RIP software, included, slices it into print passes.

Set up

Size and place the image on the touchscreen. Pick the resolution for speed or detail, and CMYK or CMYK plus white.

Print

Press start. Stay close, and use the time to film, talk to the client and line up the next job.

Images and photos

High-quality or RAW images scale best. Stock photography can be licensed online.

Logos and branding

Clients often send their files. For anything else, a local designer or student works well. Charge for design time.

New designs

Basic Photoshop training is included. Most owners use partners or freelancers for complex designs.

Graphics

Stain, spot white, or both

Color ink is see-through. The white channel lets you decide, part by part, what the surface shows and what it hides. That's how one printer handles glass, dark walls and wood.

Rendering: three versions of a peacock print on a glass restaurant partition, translucent stain only, opaque spot white, and an opaque bird over a translucent backgroundRendering

Stain only

Color with no white. Light passes through glass and the grain shows through wood, for a stained glass or stained wood look.

Spot white

White under the color. The print goes solid and bright on glass, dark walls and colored surfaces.

Both in one print

Back the subject with white and leave the background stained. The bird pops and the room still shows through.

Marketing

Every print is a live show

People stop, watch and film when the printer runs. Some owners rope off the machine during commercial prints and turn the job into an event. A great piece at a local restaurant can bring more calls than a month of ads.

"If I get the machine in front of people and show it to them, they do the brainstorming of what it can do for them."Jonathan O., WallPrint 904, Jacksonville, FL
